A 39-year-old pedestrian, from Mashpee, received serious injuries when he was hit by a 2021 Toyota Highlander on Route 1 in Peabody around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, according to the Massachusetts State Police Department.
The pedestrian was reportedly trying to cross all lanes of traffic right before he was hit by the SUV.
He was conscious and alert when officials responded to the scene, according to the Peabody Police Department. He was taken to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington by an ambulance.
The driver of the Toyota SUV, a 55-year-old man from Malden, was uninjured.
The roadway was reduced to one lane while local and state police responded, according to Mass511.
The Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section responded to the scene to conduct an "in-depth" investigation of the crash.
